Bomb Searches

During the Second World War, significant parts of the UK were heavily bombed, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) continues to be discovered today—often unexpectedly during construction projects. These findings can cause major delays, cost increases, and pose health and safety risks under CDM 2015 regulations.

Groundsure’s UXO Insight Report, in partnership with Igne UXO Limited, provides a detailed desktop assessment of potential UXO risks at a site. The report is based on:

  • Analysis of over 5,000 past UXO mitigation projects since 1991

  • Accurate bomb density mapping from historical Ordnance Survey maps (1941–1944)

  • An extensive archive of past UXO excavations and threat assessments

  • Bomb, V1, and V2 strike data from original war records, including area damage analysis

  • Risk contour mapping around likely strike locations

This report helps ensure your client’s construction or development project proceeds with a clear understanding of any UXO threats. It’s an essential early step in managing UXO risk and supports compliance with industry best practices, including CIRIA C681 guidelines.
